REDEFINING BUSINESS (contributed by A.P.Chawla, ROF)

A mechanic was removing the cylinder heads from the motor of a car, when he spotted the famous heart surgeon in his shop, who was standing off to the side, waiting for the service manager to come to take a look at his car.

The mechanic shouted across the garage, ”Hello, Doctor! Please come over here for a minute.”

The famous surgeon, a bit surprised, walked over to the mechanic.

The mechanic straightened up, wiped his hands on a rag, and asked argumentatively, “ So doctor, look at this. I also open hearts, take valves out, grind them, put in new parts, and when I finish this will work as a new one. So how come you get the big money, when you and me is doing basically the same work?”

The doctor leaned over and whispered to the mechanic: He said, “Try to do it when the engine is running”.

THE ANSWERS ARE WITHIN

Situations in themselves do not produce feelings. It is our perception of the situation that makes us feel good or bad. Just as situations cannot make us happy or sad, another person cannot make us feel happy or sad. We choose to be happy or sad. If we seek greater freedom in our lives, we need to be objective and rational about the power of our beliefs versus the power of situations. We control our emotions. When we live in freedom, we choose the way we respond rather than let our automatic destructive reactions get the better of us.

The PQR formula can help us live freely and in stressful anxious, or depressing situations. We Pause to Question how we would like to Respond rather than react and live to regret our negative reaction. When I react (You push, I shove. Without thinking, I shove.), it is immediate and disconnected from my higher Self, the constant I, and the meaning of my life. My reaction is an imprisoned effect. This is not freedom.

By applying the “PQR” formula, however I can respond. I Pause, (find myself in the situation) Question (How does this situation relate to the meaning of my life? How do I wish to respond given a world of infinite possibilities?) and then  Respond (a freely chosen action –not a reaction). Responding rather than reacting helps us live freely and in greater harmony with our true identity in every situation. It helps us grab hold of the freedom we seek in order to enter into the river of divine life. (Paul Coutinho: TOI 13/1/08)

HOW TO AVOID ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE /DEMENTIA?

Keep mentally fit:

1.      Keep your brain active. Read the papers, solve crosswords, and figure out puzzles, socialize and keep contact with people.

2.      Discuss the kind of medication you are using with your family doctor, some medicines including sleeping pills, may adversely affect your memory.

3.      Eat healthy. Lack of variety in your diet may lead   to vitamin deficiency, causing memory problems. Researchers say use of turmeric reduces risk of AD. Others think a diet high in fruits, vegetables, cereals, but low in meat and dairy products helps.

4.      Drink in moderation. The older you get, the less your brain can cope with alcohol.

5.      Take plenty of exercise. Improved food circulation reduces the risk of disorders, such as vascular dementia.

6.      See your doctor if you feel that you- or one of your loved ones-is not behaving or thinking normally. (Contributed by Dr. R.L.Chaudhary ROF))

DO YOU KNOW?:It is impossible to sneeze with your eyes open.

The word ’set’ has more definitions than any other word in the English language.

Cockroaches can live for 9 days after their head has been cut off.
